Cracked pane, fogged glass or a sash that will not slide? Madison Window Repair is a referral service run by R&S for Madison and the towns around it. Send the quote form on this page and we pass your request to an independent local window and glass company. If a local company takes the job, it sets its own price. Madison Window Repair is not a window or glass company, and no one from Madison Window Repair will turn up with a ladder. You pay us nothing, and the company we pass your request to may pay us for the referral.
How our window repair referral service works
Send the quote form on this page or call. The form asks for your name, phone number, ZIP code, the service you need and details of the problem. Madison Window Repair then passes your request to one independent local window repair company.
Calls reach a voicemail box. We call you back within one business day.
- Send the quote form, or call and leave a message. On a call, a short greeting tells you this is a local referral service and that the call is recorded. In the form or on the call, give your name, your phone number and your ZIP code. Then describe the problem in a sentence or two: which window or glass, what broke, and whether it is a house, a rental or a shop.
- We call you back within one business day. We say who we are and make clear that Madison Window Repair is a referral service.
- We connect you with a local window repair company. If you agree, we hand your details to an independent local company. It agrees its own price and schedule with you. Should no company be able to take the work, we say so plainly.
What should you tell the company?
A few details help the company judge the job before anyone visits. Say what kind of window it is, such as a double-hung, a slider, a casement or a fixed picture window. Say what failed: broken glass, a foggy sealed unit, a warped frame, a jammed sash or a torn screen. Mention whether the building is a home or a business, and whether the opening is secure or open to the weather. Photos help if the company asks for them.
Not sure which kind of job you have? Read about window glass replacement. If glass has broken and the opening is exposed, see emergency window repair for what to do while you wait. We cannot promise how fast a company will arrive, because each sets its own schedule.
What to ask before work on an older Madison home
Own a house built before 1978? The Wisconsin Department of Health Services (DHS) says its lead-safe renovation rule covers homes built before 1978. Lead may still be present in those buildings. Window work is one place this can come up.
- Ask about lead certification. DHS tells owners to check its certified lead company list, which it updates monthly. Confirm that the worker is a certified Lead-Safe Renovator employed by a company on that list. For window replacement, DHS names a lead-safe renovator working for a certified lead company as the right kind of contractor.
- Ask about a permit. The City of Madison permit chart lists "Windows & Frames - replace" as needing a permit. The chart says nothing about window repair or glass-only work. Madison also says a permit is not required for small repairs under $500 in estimated value. Ask the company, or the City of Madison Building Inspection, whether your job needs one.
- Check the license. The City of Madison says contractors must be licensed with the State of Wisconsin to work on one- and two-family homes. It suggests using the state's online lookup. That page does not say which credential covers window glass work, so ask the company which one it holds.

Who does the work?
The work is done by an independent local company, not by Madison Window Repair. That company agrees on the price with you.
What the referral service does: takes your request and passes it on. What it does not do: inspect glass, supervise repairs or sign your agreement with the company. Details about the company, such as a license or insurance, come from the company, so ask for them in writing before you accept a quote.
Where do our pages come from?
Each page here is built from official and industry sources. A local fact is stored with its source and the date it was read. A price appears only with its source and date, and a fact with no source stays off the page.
Before a page goes live it passes automated checks and a page review, and a fact check ties every number and rule to its stored source. A page that fails the checks, the page review or the fact check is not published.
Pages older than six months are checked again against fresh sources and changed if needed.
